Since 1960, The Hoffman Institute has been one of the nation's leading college preparatory boarding and day schools for young adults. At Hoffman, every possible resource is dedicated to developing in students the values and skills that form the foundation of a life of accomplishment, leadership, and fulfillment. These include a love for the life of the mind, a commitment to service, courage and confidence, grace and creativity, and collaboration and friendship. Known for its rigor, the school promotes intellectual curiosity and disciplined study habits through a challenging curriculum distinguished by a wide array of advanced placement courses and electives as well as a focus on history and cultures. It also promotes active involvement in the life of the campus and off-campus communities through a rich co-curricular program. In all they do, students are both challenged and closely supported by an outstanding faculty and staff. The school's extraordinary physical plant provides a breathtakingly beautiful yet state-of-the-art setting for learning and living. Throughout its short history, Hoffman has been committed to enrolling a diverse student body from every walk of life, across the country, and around the world. This commitment is honored by significant expenditures in financial aid to assist families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to provide an extraordinary secondary education for their children.

Academic Program
The Hoffman Institute offers a rigorous curriculum for grades 9-12. Students are encouraged and guided toward full realization of their academic potential through disciplined study and a developed spirit of inquiry. Hoffman operates on the semester system and students take seven courses each year.
See Course List for a list of classes.
Residential Life
Mutual respect and consideration are the essential elements of the residential experience at Hoffman. Ten professional resident faculty members (Resident Advisors) manage the dorm community and are committed to working with and supporting the young adults. In addition, faculty members serve as dorm affiliates. Each houseparent is responsible for specific halls within the dorms and acts as a resource for students about all aspects of life within and beyond the school. A team of proctors and peer educators assists the resident faculty in leading, inspiring, and guiding students through the academic year. Rooms are same sex, though the halls themselves are common.
IC Note: While the only inhabited dormitory on the grid is Kord, there are a total of 4 dorm buildings located on the grounds. Kord, Halton, Hilton, and Keffer. Keffer, located in the farthest back corner of the dormitory area, has been closed since 1980 when it was closed and boarded up for reason the school did not explain. It remains uninhabited and off limits to students.
Athletics
A competitive athletics program includes interscholastic varsity and junior varsity sports.
IC Note: The Institute is involved in their athletics program and holds a healthy relationship with other state wide private and boarding schools, however, the school is not involved with public high school athletics. All students receiving athletic scholarships are approached by independent scouts arranged by Hoffman’s board of Directors.
Co-Curricular Opportunities
In addition to an active student government and class leadership system, there are dozens of student clubs and organizations, including;
- Phila (Charitable Services Club)
- Art Club
- Astronomy Club
- Chess Club
- Debate Club
- Drama Club
- Math Club
- National Honors Society
- Student Government
- Activities in community service and in the fine and performing arts are particularly strong and popular with the local community as well as the headmaster and board of directors.
IC Note: Chair Positions in clubs will be dealt with ICly.
